Accidents happen, but when it comes to your eyes, fast action matters. Eye emergencies can happen suddenly from injuries, chemical exposure, or infections, and delaying care could lead to serious damage or even vision loss.
At our office, we’re here to help when you need it most. If you're experiencing any of the symptoms below, don’t wait. Contact us right away or head to the nearest emergency room.
If you notice any of the following symptoms, get help immediately:
Bleeding or discharge from the eye
Swelling or bruising around the eye
Changes in vision: blurred, double, or sudden vision loss
Eye pain, burning, or sensitivity to light
One pupil looked larger than the other
Headaches, nausea, or an eye that seems to be bulging
These symptoms can signal something serious that requires urgent care.
Black Eye: Bruising from trauma to the area around the eye.
Hyphema: Bleeding inside the front of the eye, often from a direct hit.
Chemical Burns: Caused by household products or workplace chemicals (flush with water immediately and seek medical help).
Foreign Bodies: Particles like dust, metal, wood, or glass that get stuck in the eye.
It’s tempting to try and fix things yourself, but please avoid:
Rubbing your eye or putting pressure on it
Trying to remove anything stuck in your eye
Using eye drops or ointments unless directed by a doctor
Doing any of these can make the injury worse.
While we’re always here if something goes wrong, prevention is key.
Here are a few quick tips:
Wear protective eyewear during sports, yard work, or home improvement projects.
Handle cleaning products and chemicals carefully.
